AMD X470 Chipset is the high-end motherboard chipset for 2nd generation AMD Ryzen processors (AM4 Socket) that are built on Zen+ architecture and 12nm manufacturing process. These new X470 motherboards support XFR 2, Precision Boost 2, and Store MI storage acceleration when used with second-generation AMD Ryzen Processors. However, they can also be used with the older first-generation Ryzen (Summit Ridge) and second-generation Raven Ridge AMD APUs that support AM4 Socket. To be honest, there is not much of a difference between the older X370 chipset and the newer X470 one, but if you are getting a 2nd generation Ryzen processor then it is better to get the newer X470 chipset for complete support and new features. For older first-generation Ryzen processors there is no point in getting the newer X470 motherboard unless you are planning to upgrade in near future.
Motherboard manufacturers such as Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock, and Biostar have already released their new X470 motherboards for the Ryzen 2000 series CPUs. There are many models of X470 motherboards available based on features and they can be very expensive, but there are some budget models available too, and here I am going to list down the best budget X470 motherboards for gaming, or for building a powerful workstation PC for video editing and for professional work. All these AMD X470 chipset motherboards support overclocking and are very power efficient and offer enhanced performance. If you want a cheaper alternative to X470 motherboards then you can get B450 Motherboards for Ryzen 2nd Generation Processors.

I am not a gamer. This will be my first build ever. I am looking to build myself a powerful enough server/pc that can run 24/7. I know I want to go with a AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Ryzen 7 2700 I haven’t made up my mind yet. I want to be able to do editing of movies, photos and download music. I will also being editing the music also. I will be storing all the media on the computer. I will also be running my Plex Server on it. I have been try to find a board that would be right for that but do not know which one would be best for all I want to do? So any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I think you should go for AMD Ryzen 7 2700 as you will need more cores and processing power for your work. Also, get a fast 512GB SSD (Samsung 860 EVO) for boot drive and for editing stuff and with a 2TB HDD for storing files.
I thank you for that suggestion on the CPU. I was planning on getting and SSD 500GB for the boot drive drive and all the programs. I do already have an 8TB external hard drive right now for storage. I plan on buying some more internal storage later. My real problem is going through all the different motherboards and trying to find the one that would make a good server/pc. I am a use to just buying the fastest CPU I can get in a prebuilt. Then making sure it has connections I need. Now this is all new to me. Everyone is talking gaming everywhere I turn. I have asked questioned and gotten more gamer talk. So I don’t understand what kind of board I am really getting or need? So I hope you can help me out on this one please.
Any good ATX X470 motherboard would be fine whether gaming or not. Any good gaming board will work fine for a server setup too. Just make sure it has all the connectors you need. I suggest you to go for ASUS PRIME X470-PRO or MSI X470 Gaming Plus which is cheaper. If you have other queries then feel free to ask.
And about power delivery to cpu, I had read that some motherboards are running to hot.
The Gigabyte X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING broke after 3 months of use, would not post no matter what. Changed memory and video card still woud only power on and will never post, change the CPU still same problem. Went to a cheaper BIOSTAR mobo and that one exhibit the same problem after only 2 weeks. Question is what is the most durable and reliable one.
Well, Gigabyte boards are generally very reliable. I suggest you to go for MSI as they are very durable boards, and i suggest MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON .
Hi Akshat
I have bought an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 3.7 8 Core 16 thread CPU, A Samsung 970 Pro Series 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD and a MSI 470 Gaming Plus motherboard but I have yet to get a decent Graphics card.
My computer is used for Trading and some gaming and is running three to four screens.
I don’t mind spending good money but don’t want to spend more than is necessary.
Do you have any recommendations please?
Rob
I suggest you to go for GeForce GTX 1660 as it will serve your purpose well. Here are some of the best ones https://graphicscardhub.com/best-gtx-1660/
Tks Akshat.
