RX 570 vs GTX 1060 Graphics Cards Comparison

Radeon RX 570 and GeForce GTX 1060 are two powerful mid-range graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia respectively. Both these graphics cards fall in the same segment with similar kind of performance in gaming. Well, the main competitor of GeForce GTX 1060 is Radeon RX 580, but Radeon RX 570 is also a very powerful graphics card and can compete against GTX 1060. I have previously compared RX 580 and GTX 1060 graphics cards but here I am going to compare Radeon RX 570 and GeForce GTX 1060 so that you can clearly decide which card you should get for gaming or professional work.

Radeon RX 570 vs GeForce GTX 1060 Comparison

Here is a detailed comparison of the Radeon RX 570 and GeForce GTX 1060 graphics cards based on their specifications, features, performance, and power consumption.

GPU Architecture

Radeon RX 570 is built on the Polaris GPU architecture from AMD and is the second-fastest graphics card after Radeon RX 580 in the Radeon RX 500 graphics card series. The card comes with 2048 Stream Processors which is just 256 SP short compared to the Radeon RX 580.

GeForce GTX is built on the Pascal GPU architecture from Nvidia and comes with 1152 / 1280 CUDA Cores for 3GB/6GB variants. The one with 6GB GDDR5 memory is a bit faster than the one having 3GB memory. The number of processor cores may seem low in GTX 1060 but you must know that Stream Processors and CUDA Cores work on different technologies or architectures and they cannot be equated against one another just on their numbers.

Memory

Radeon RX 570 comes in 4GB / 8GB GDDR5 memory having an interface of 256-bit. On the other hand GeForce GTX 1060 comes in 3GB / 6GB GDDR5 memory having memory interface of 192-bits only. The memory bandwidth of Radeon RX 570 is 224 GB/s which is considerably greater than that of GeForce GTX 1060, which stands at 192 GB/s only. So, in terms of memory performance and quantity, Radeon RX 570 is clearly a winner.

Features

Both these graphics cards support DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5 and Vulkan APIs. Also, both are VR Ready graphics cards and you will get enjoyable and lag-free Virtual Reality on these cards. Radeon RX 570 comes with FreeSync technology to prevent screen tearing in games while the GeForce GTX 1060 has G-Sync technology for the same purpose. Radeon RX 570 supports AMD CrossFire multi-GPU technology while GTX 1060 does not support the Nvidia SLI multi-GPU setup. So in terms of features, Radeon RX 570 is slightly ahead of GTX 1060 because it supports multi-GPU configuration.

Performance (Gaming & Other)

The gaming performance of both these mid-range graphics cards is neck to neck. Both these graphics cards can run latest games on very high graphics settings at 1080p resolution with comfortable frame rates. These cards are also capable of running games on high settings at 1440p resolution too. In Vulkan and DirectX 12 titles, Radeon RX 570 performs better and in DirectX 11 games, GTX 1060 is a bit faster.

Some Gaming Benchmarks of Radeon RX 570 & GeForce GTX 1060

Very High / Ultra settings Radeon RX 570 GeForce GTX 1060
Battlefield 1 (DX12, 1080p) 91 FPS 79 FPS
Doom (Vulkan, 1080p) 133 FPS 122 FPS
GTA 5 (DX 11, 1440p) 52 FPS 54 FPS
Dishonored 2 (DX11, 1440p) 33 FPS 37 FPS

When it comes to cryptocurrency mining then Radeon RX 570 is certainly a much better graphics card compared to GeForce GTX 1060.

Power Consumption

When it comes to power consumption then GTX 1060 is clearly a winner. GeForce GTX 1060 has maximum power consumption of 120W and requires 400W PSU for its working. On the other hand, Radeon RX 570 has maximum power consumption of 150W and requires a 450W PSU to work with.
