AMD Ryzen is the answer from AMD to the latest Intel Core series gaming processors that include Kaby Lake and Skylake processors. For quite some time AMD was lacking in the processor department and it really did not have any solid processor that can compete with the top-end Intel Core i7 series and Cores i5 series processors, but now with the launch of AMD Ryzen 7 processors, Intel is started to get a bit worried.
AMD Ryzen processors are the latest offering from AMD. They are based on the Zen architecture that provides maximum performance at lower power consumption. They are based on the new Socket which is AM4 and can be only be paired with AM4 Socket motherboards. Also, all AMD Ryzen processors are built on the latest 14nm FinFET process and support DDR4 RAM.
These latest AMD Ryzen processors run a lot cooler compared to the processors in the same range in the past. They are now more power efficient and are priced comparatively lower than Intel core series processors in the same performance range. Here in this post, I am listing down the best AMD Ryzen 7 Octa-core processors for building a high-end AMD Gaming PC, but if you are on a budget then you can go for AMD Ryzen 5 and AMD Ryzen 3 processors that are also very powerful and are quite affordable compared to Ryzen 7 processors. But if you need something faster than Ryzen 7 then have a look at the AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors.

Best AMD Ryzen 7 Processors for Top-end AMD Gaming PC
Here are the best AMD Ryzen 7 Octa-core processors for delivering an ultimate performance both in gaming as well as in CPU bound applications or softwares. All the below mentioned AMD Ryzen processors are unlocked which means they can be overclocked and they support DDR4 RAM.
AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is the flagship AMD Ryzen 7 processor and is the best AMD processor that you can get for your ultimate gaming PC. It is an Octa-core processor which comes with 4MB of L2 cache and 16MB L3 cache. The processor has base frequency of 3.6 GHz which can go to 4.0 GHz in Turbo mode or what AMD calls it as Precision Boost. It is an unlocked processor which means it has unlocked multipliers and can be overclocked easily. The processor can run 16 threads which can result in an immense performance increase in multi-threaded applications and games.
The processor is based on AMD’s latest Zen architecture and comes with a new feature called Extended Frequency Range (XFR) which means the processor can auto-overclock itself beyond turbo frequency when on the better cooling solution. The exact amount of frequency that it can overclock depends on how good the cooling is. This processor has already broken the Cinebench R15 benchmarking records as professionals have successfully overclocked this processor to whopping 5.2 GHz and achieved a score of 2449.
The performance of AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is at par with Intel Core i7 6900K which is way more expensive than Ryzen 7 1800X. Also, the power consumption of Ryzen 7 1800X is lower at 95W compared to 140W of Intel Core i7 6900K.
There is no denying fact that AMD Ryzen 7 1800x is the fastest 8-core desktop processor to date and it is not so expensive either considering the performance it offers and the high price of rival Core i7 6900K. According to me AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is the best processor for gaming enthusiasts who want to build an ultimate AMD gaming PC with CrossFire or SLI multi-GPU setup. Highly Recommended by me.
|AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Specifications|
|Clock Speed||3.6 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo)|
|Cache||L2 (4MB) / L3 (16MB)|
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X is similar to AMD Ryzen 7 1800X but has lower clock speed. The processor has a 200 MHz lower clock for both Base and Turbo frequency. It comes with a 3.4 GHz base clock and can achieve 3.8 GHz in turbo. The cache remains the same as 4MB for L2 and 16MB for L3. It also comes with Extended Frequency Range (XFR) and has a maximum power consumption of 95 Watts. It is an unlocked processor and it can be overclocked easily.
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X has got 8 physical core but can process 16 threads which definitely gives a performance boost in the multi-threaded applications. The performance Ryzen 7 1700X is comparable to Intel’s top-end Kaby Lake processor which is Core i7 7700K. It is also at par with Intel Core i7 6800K in synthetic as well as in gaming performance. The power consumption of both these processors is almost similar to Ryzen 7 1700X at 95W and Core i7 7700K at 91W. It is also considerably cheaper than the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X. This processor offers the best value for money.

|Clock Speed||3.4 GHz ( 3.8 GHz Turbo Boost)|
|Cache||L2 (4MB) / L3 (16MB)|
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is the most power-efficient Octa-core processor that has only 65 Watt TDP. It has a 3.0 GHz clock speed and a 3.7 GHz turbo boost. The cache remains the same as with its big brothers having 4MB for L2 and 16MB for L3 and thus total cache amounts to 20MB. It is also an unlocked processor and you can overclock it easily for more performance.
Unlike Ryzen 7 1800X and Ryzen 7 1700X, Ryzen 7 1700 comes with Wraith Spire LED Cooler shown below. But if you want to overclock it then I would recommend getting a better aftermarket cooler, preferably liquid cooler from Corsair.
The performance of Ryzen 7 1700 is comparable to that of Core i7-7700 from Intel. Also, it is much cheaper than the Core i7-7700. So if you want an affordable and good performance Octa-core processor then you won’t find anything better than AMD Ryzen 7 1700.

|Clock Speed||3.0 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo Boost)|
|Cache||L2 (4MB) / L3 (16MB)|
Important Note: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X and Ryzen 7 1700X do not come with Heatsink or CPU Cooler. For them, you have to buy a good aftermarket CPU cooler. I recommend you to get Liquid CPU Cooler or Water Cooler for them because of the liquid cooler you can overclock them to higher frequencies for extra performance. Also, all AMD Ryzen processors are unlocked which means they can be overclocked easily on an AM4 Socket motherboard that supports overclocking.

AMD Ryzen is certainly going to give a good fight to the Intel Kaby Lake or higher Core series processors because they deliver almost similar performance and are also cheaper than them. Also, the power consumption of AMD Ryzen processors is way lower and they also generate less heat. So if you are in the processing of building a powerful gaming PC then these Ryzen 7 processors will not let you down. Also, you will be saving some money on them which you can invest in other things.
