RX 7900 GRE vs RTX 4070 SUPER Comparison and Benchmarks

AMD has struck a serious blow to Nvidia in the mid-range graphics card segment by launching the Radeon RX 7900 GRE at a very attractive price. Initially, RX 7900 GRE was reserved only for the Chinese market and in Pre-built/OEM systems but now it has been launched globally without any restrictions. When it comes to competition the RX 7900 GRE is a direct rival to the recently launched RTX 4070 SUPER, a very powerful mid-range graphics card for 1440p and 4K gaming. So, if want to find out which card is better for your needs then I am going to compare RX 7900 GRE and RTX 4070 SUPER based on important parameters.

RX 7900 GRE vs RTX 4070 SUPER Comparison

Below you can find the comparison between RX 7900 GRE and RTX 4070 SUPER graphics cards based on their specifications, performance, pricing, power consumption, and features.

GPU Architecture

RX 7900 GRE is based on the RDNA 3 GPU architecture and uses a chiplet GPU design. In this chiplet design, the core GPU components sit on the Graphics Compute Die (GCD) that is present at the center of the package, and Memory Cache and controllers reside on Memory Cache Dies that surround the GCD. The GCD is built on a 5nm fabrication process while MCDs are built on a 6nm manufacturing process. The card uses a cut-down version of the Navi 31 GPU Chip and comes with 5120 Stream Processors, 80 Ray Accelerators, and 160 AI Accelerators.

On the other hand, RTX 4070 SUPER is built on Nvidia’s newest Ada Lovelace architecture on a smaller 5nm fabrication process. The card uses an AD104 GPU Chip and comes with 7680 CUDA Cores, 60 Ray Tracing (RT) Cores, and 240Tensor Cores for AI-related tasks and processing.

Video Memory [VRAM]

RX 7900 GRE comes with 16GB GDDR6 video memory having a 256-bit interface. The memory runs at a speed of 18 Gbps and delivers a memory bandwidth of 576 GB/s. Additionally, RX 7900 GRE has 64 MB Infinity Cache, an ultra-fast memory that can increase peak memory bandwidth to up to 2250 GB/s. On the other hand, RTX 4070 SUPER comes with 12GB GDDR6X video memory having a 192-bit interface. The memory runs at a speed of 21 Gbps and delivers a bandwidth of 504 GB/s.
