A TFX PSU is a Thin Form Factor Power Supply for low profile and small form factor computers. Like the SFX power supply, the TFX power supply is also based on the ATX specifications. TFX power supplies are longer and narrower, which allows them to fit easily in low-profile and slim cases. These TFX PSUs come in lower power capacities, generally up to 300Watts because small form factor systems consume very less power for their operation.
A typical TFX Power Supply has dimensions as 175mm (L) × 85 mm (W) × 65mm (H), and they come with a top/bottom mounted 80mm fan for cooling. The fan can also be used as an exhaust fan for taking out heat generated from the processor and motherboard to the surroundings from its backside. A TFX PSU is longer than SFX PSU, but it is less wide than it. Some small form factor and low profile PC cases support only SFX PSUs and some can only take TFX PSU. So, here in this post, I am going to list down the best TFX PSUs for your small form factor build.

Note: Most of the Dell, Lenovo, and HP SFF desktops use TFX power supplies, and you can use the below-mentioned TFX PSUs as a replacement PSU for these Slim SFF PCs or as an upgrade too if the PSU in your SFF PC is not that powerful enough. You must also know that there is no modular TFX PSU available in the market right now.
Best TFX Power Supply for Slim or SFF Low Profile PCs
Here are the best TFX power supplies for slim and low-profile desktop builds that only support TFX PSUs. All the below-mentioned TFX Power Supplies are ATX compliant and can be used with regular computer components or motherboards.
Apevia TFX-AP300W Power Supply
Apevia TFX-AP300W is a budget TFX power supply (ATX complaint) and is one of the cheapest TFX PSUs that you can find in the market. This TFX PSU comes with all the required connectors including a 24-pin motherboard connector but lacks a PCI-E power connector. This is a 300W TFX PSU and has got 20A current on the 12V Rail, which I think is enough to power a basic small form factor PC. For cooling, it comes with one 80mm fan which is pretty quiet in operation.
The TFX Power Supply comes in all black color and has got non-sleeved cables. On the rear side, you will get a 115/230 Volt selector switch to select the appropriate input voltage based on your country or place. This is a pretty affordable TFX PSU for low-power SFF builds. The PSU is damn cheap and is priced way under 50 dollars. Overall it is a good budget replacement TFX PSU for slim desktop tower PCs.

So in your opinion is the Silverstone your top pick? Since its highly recommended ? I like that it has the plug for a graphics card where the others do not, BUT cards requiring a plug almost always have a much higher power requirement than 300w. So is the seasonic the safest bet if I can find it in gold?
Yes Silverstone is the best you can get and I don’t think it is available in gold.
Hello Verma,
I have an HP custom PSU of 300watt: +12V (12A + 16A). All together 28 A. It has no power connectors for graphic cards but I wanted to know if this could run the GTX 1650 Super, considering the difference in total power draw with the low profile version is just 25watt since super is rated at 100watt. I am tempted because there is practically no price difference between the two and the Super feels like a scale down GTX 1060. Please will my PSU be able to handle it with the above specifications. Thanks in advance!
Well, your PSU is not good enough because 12V x 16A equals to 192 Watt and this means it is technically a 200W PSU. The GTX 1660 SUPER can draw close to 100W during gaming which means you will be left with 92W for CPU, Fans and other components. So, I would not recommend running GTX 1660 SUPER on this PSU.
Hello Verma,
My PSU has dual +12V rail
+12Va —-12A
+12Vb—-16A
Does this make any difference, because I understand the total pull from a single +12V is low. But the two combine, will that make any difference for the GTX 1650 Super? Thank you!
What is the combined Wattage for the two 12V rails? It should be give there.
Hello Verma,
My PSU has dual +12V rail on a combine wattage of 300w HP custom PSU
+12Va —-12A
+12Vb—-16A
Does this make any difference, because I understand the total pull from a single +12V is low. But the two combine, will that make any difference for the GTX 1650 Super?
Thank you!
The card will draw current from one of the two Rails only. You also need a 6-pin PCIe connector for GTX 1650 SUPER.

Thank you Verma for the quick reply. You said the card will draw from only one of the +12V rail. My system is an old g31m-s2L motherboard limited to 4gb ram, and core 2 quad 9550, and an 80gb HDD. I have an external Seagate 2TB connected. That’s all. I know the 350watts recommended for the GTX 1650 SUPER is to account for accessories which as you can attest I don’t have. Lastly, my power supply has no molex connector and my only option is a sata adaptor which I believe you wrote is 54 watts. Thus, GTX 1650 SUPER draws 75watts from motherboard, and 54watt from sata 6-pin adaptor. Is this setup feasible? Please I trust your expert advice on this, THANK YOU once more!
I’m looking for a tfx psu that is at least 450W and has a 6 pin PCIe connector. Any suggestions?
Well, the best you can get in the TFX form factor is up to 300W. I suggest you to look at SilverStone TX300, which is a pretty decent 300W TFX PSU and it comes with a 6-pin PCIe connector.
Ah, my graphic card requires minimum 450W. I guess I will have to look elsewhere.
Thanks for the review. My concern is fan noise. I replaced my home theater desktop box with a slimline box because of new space constraints but I forget how much effort I put into making that desktop PC quiet. My new slimline PC is noisy as hell, assuming it’s the PSU, since I transferred the existing motherboard (thus CPU fan) over . Wonder why TFX specs don’t include noise decibel levels (except Silverstone here). I would think quiet would be one of the top priorities for a home theater PC. Compared to Silverstone’s 18dba, how do you think other PSUs compare? Thanks.
I think be quiet! would be the quietest.
