Looking for a good Low Profile DDR4 RAM for your mini-ITX or small form factor gaming build? If yes then you are at the perfectly right place. A low profile RAM is a RAM with low height with no heatsink/heat spreader or has a low profile heatsink on it. They pose no clearance issues for any CPU cooler (whether compact or bulky) and can fit in any small form factor builds comfortably. Low profile memory is a must for SFF PCs and it also comes very handy in situations when you have a low profile CPU cooler or a bulky CPU cooler installed and have very tight clearance for memory, where only a low profile RAM can fit in. Also, these low-profile RAMs are a great choice for gaming mini-ITX motherboards.
DDR4 is the current memory standard for current-generation Intel and AMD processors that include Intel Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake, AMD Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, and Ryzen Threadripper processors. DDR4 RAM is faster and consumes less power (1.2V) than the DDR3 RAM (1.5V). It also runs cooler than the DDR3 RAM and you can easily find high-performance and overclockable DDR4 RAM in low profile form factor. Here in this post, I am going to list down the best low-profile DDR4 and DDR3 memory for small form factor gaming PC or for PCs with space constraints due to aftermarket CPU coolers. All the below-mentioned low-profile DDR4 and DDR3 RAM support both Intel / AMD-based systems and multi-channel memory architecture.

Final Words
Using a low-profile gaming RAM is always a good idea because they are priced lower and can be fit in any case and with any type of CPU cooler. They may not include those fancy LEDs or bigger heat spreaders or heat sinks but they deliver excellent performance both in gaming as well as in other memory-intensive applications. I have always used low-profile gaming RAMs for my gaming builds and will continue to do so in the future to avoid any compatibility issues with any CPU cooler, motherboard, or case. If you have any queries regarding these RAMs then please leave a comment below to ask your questions.

Your posts are exceptional, Mr. Verma
I used your post on Low Profile cards and got one. I asked for Gigabyte Geforce 2 GB DDR5 but got a lower, I think alternative, Zotac 710 Zone Edition.
Now the problem is my two new RAMs
But my Dell Optiplex 980 is adamant on NOT Booting giving me 6 beeps (1 long + 3 + 3) with 3 & 4 LEDs are On , Stable not Blinking, on all my attempts of adding the two chips one by one and together in all the DIMM slots!!, Resetting CMOS!! With the Older HP RAM Chips and without!! Cleaning the Whole Case with Non-residue Spray or prior to this!!
Not supported at all so they are not read and cause the error
DMA initialization failure
DMA page register failure (What Type/!)
They are both the same
Kingston 4GB 2X8 PC3 – 12800 -11-11-80
The questions
What is this?
Does Updating the BIOS from the one the MB came with 2011 (Version A07) to the updated 2018 (Version A18) as found on DELL website is a good idea? Is is useful in such a case?
Well, the issue is either with compatibility or something has gone bad. How are you going to update the BIOS if the computer is not booting up?
Yeah,
Either it’s Dell vs. Kingston Chips or the Replacement Chips are damaged!!
I’m sad
Hello Mr Verma,
Thanks for Reply
I have the other two HP RAM Chips. They are 133 MHz & They are working Absolutely Fine.
Could you please tell me if the BIOS Update will work?
I’ll Close All Applications.
I’ll Disconnect the Internet.
I’ll Disable AVAST Premier.
I’ll disconnect all the three Internal SATA HDDs
I’ll run it as Next, Next
The Version I’ve just got is 7 years newer!!
Well, I cannot guarantee that the BIOS update will work, but it will not do any harm and I think it is worth trying out. However, it can be risky if you are doing it for the first time or if you don’t have the correct BIOS. I think the major problem is with compatibility as I have seen that some of these older pre-built computers works with OEM or original RAM only. You can try using your new RAM chips in your friend’s PC to make sure that they are alright.
You are right, man. I’ll take the RAM Chips to a friend’s PC Maintenance center near me to let him test the two RAMs because it’s very unlikely to return them because they are not from my city, and they are not Brand New from a Dell Representative center to refund. That’s disappointing to me. It seems that Dell Optiplex works only with Crucial or HP chips only.
Nice read! Always enjoy your posts. However, I was wondering if there are any Low-profile memory sticks that incorporate the Samsung B-Die chip.
Thanks! I don’t think there are any in this list with Samsung B-Die chips.
Thanks.
Sir i wanna install my X570 AMD PC with An air cooler named Dark Rock Pro 4. But I’m afraid about its compatibility on my board. MSI Components MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi, and also Im using DDR4 corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2 x 8GB Memory Module..Do u prefer this air cooler or look for something else instead of this?
What PC case do you have?
Corsair Obsidian 500D RGB SE
I think you will not face any issues in fitting Dark Rock Pro 4 in your case with MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi motherboard. It should keep your Ryzen 9 3900X much cooler than the stock cooler.
Or please Suggest me a good cooler for my Ryzen 9 3900X…still I’m using the stock cooler for my wrk..so it gets heat a lot. That’s y I’m planning to change my stock cooler.
Sir my doubt is any chance of bottleneck with this cooler and my RAM modules..Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro is my Memory kit. Is there any prblm with its height?
Sorry, I thought they were Vengeance LPX. For Vengeance RGB Pro, the Dark Rock Pro 4 will not fit. I suggest you to go for a good Liquid CPU Cooler such as Corsair H100i v2.
Corsair H100i v2 is it good enough for cooling Ryzen 9 3900X?
I can suggest better. How much is your budget for the cooler?
17k is my maximum budget.
I suggest Corsair Hydro Series H115i PRO RGB.
Thank you so much sir…
Dear Akshat!
I’m glad to read your articles – they’ re very cool & informative!
I use HyperX Predator RAMs (height: 42,2mm), and plan to buy a DarkRockPro4 CPU cooler. I think there must be at least 47mm space under the cooler (40mm+ the cpu slot 7mm). I red a test with PatriotViper (height: 41mm) and DRP4 combo:
https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8842/quiet-dark-rock-pro-4-cpu-cooler-review/index5.html
There wasn’t any issue during installation; the front 12cm fan can be locked in upper position with 1-2fins or millimeters, if neccessary – as shown on the pictures. What do You think: will be there enough space over the modules to install the DRP4? Can I install the cooler over the Predators, or should I change to other low profile RAMs as You mentioned in the article? What’s Your opinion?
(I wouldn’t like to use water cooling.)
Thanks for Your answer!
I think you should be fine as I have seen it clearing G.Skill TridentZ which is 44mm tall. You may have to raise the fan a little bit.
