RTX 3070 Ti vs RX 6800 vs RTX 3070 Comparison & Benchmarks

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 graphics card series is becoming more and more crowded with the release of new Ti series graphics cards. The first one was the RTX 3080 Ti which was a 4K ready graphics card and now it is the RTX 3070 Ti which is aimed at super-fast 1440p gaming and moderate 4K gaming. RTX 3070 Ti is positioned after the RTX 3080 and before the RTX 3070 in the RTX 30 series lineup. The main competitor of this card is its younger brother, the RTX 3070 and AMD Radeon RX 6800. All these three cards belong to the same price and performance segment and choosing between them can be a little tricky. So, if you want to know how the new RTX 3070 Ti stands out against the RTX 3070 and RX 6800 in major departments then please go through the comparison made below.

RTX 3070 Ti vs RX 6800 vs RTX 3070 Comparison

Here is a quick comparison between RTX 3070 Ti, RX 6800, and RTX 3070 graphics cards based on their specifications, performance, pricing, power consumption, and features.

GPU Architecture

RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3070 are almost similar cards based on the Ampere GPU architecture on the 8nm fabrication process. They both use a GA104 GPU chip where RTX 3070 Ti uses it in fully unlocked configuration and RTX 3070 uses a slightly cut-down version of the GA104 chip. RTX 3070 Ti comes with 6144 CUDA Cores, 48 RT Core, and 192 Tensor Cores whereas RTX 3070 has slightly lesser cores overall and has got 5888 CUDA Cores, 46 RT Cores, and 184 Tensor Cores.

On the other hand, Radeon RX 6800 is built on the RDNA 2 GPU architecture on the smaller 7nm fabrication process. It uses Navi 21 XL GPU chip and comes with 3840 Stream Processors and 60 RT Cores. The card does not have Tensor Cores or equivalent cores. Also, you should note that you cannot compare CUDA Cores and Stream Processors head to head as both are implemented differently in their respective GPU architectures.

Video RAM [VRAM]

Both RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3070 come with the same amount of video memory which is 8GB. However, the memory type on these cards is different as RTX 3070 Ti comes with newer and faster GDDR6X memory running at 19Gbps and delivers a memory bandwidth of 608 GB/s, which is the maximum in this comparison. On the other hand, RTX 3070 comes with GDDR6 memory running at 14Gbps and delivers a bandwidth of 448GB/s.

Here, the card that has the maximum amount of memory is the Radeon RX 6800. It comes with 16GB GDDR6 (256-bit) that runs at 16Gbps and delivers a memory bandwidth of 512GB/s. However, the card can deliver peak memory bandwidth of up to 1664 GB/s (3.25x effective bandwidth) using the help of 128MB Infinity Cache which is an ultra-fast memory present on the GPU die. So, when it comes to video memory then RX 6800 is the clear winner here.

Features

All three cards come with the latest features and support DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenGL 4.6, and Vulkan, PCI-Express 4.0, Real-Time Ray Tracing, HDMI 2.1, AV1 decode, Microsoft DirectStorage API (to reduce game loading times). The cards also support variable refresh rate technologies G-Sync/FreeSync to reduce game stuttering. Here, RTX 3070 Ti & RTX 3070 support G-Sync and Radeon RX 6800 support FreeSync. All three cards lack SLI/CrossFire multi-GPU support. Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3070 support DLSS 2.0 (Deep Learning Super Sampling) which is a next-generation AI rendering technology to increase gaming performance or FPS in supported games.

The features that are exclusive to RX 6800 XT include a USB Type-C connector, Radeon Image Sharpening, and Smart Memory Access (SAM) with support from Ryzen 5000 series CPUs and 500 series motherboards. SAM allows the CPU to access all of the graphics card memory for improved performance in select games.

Final Thoughts

Well, RTX 3070 Ti does not offer any significant improvement over the RTX 3070 and is only up to 5% faster on average. I think RTX 3070 is a better overall card because it is priced significantly lower and consumes 30% less power while delivering almost the same level of performance. RX 6800 is also a much better buy over the RTX 3070 Ti because it has 8GB extra VRAM, delivers slightly better performance, and also costs a little less. I am not saying that RTX 3070 Ti is a bad card but it does not offer anything extra over its competitors. If you have any suggestions or queries then do let me know in the comment section below.
