The mid-range segment of the AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics card series has now been introduced with the release of RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT. Both these cards are targeted for super-fast 1440p gaming and are even suitable for 4K gaming if you can reduce some intensive graphics settings depending on the game. The RX 7700 XT is technically a cut-down version of the RX 7800 XT with slightly reduced performance and pricing. The main competitor of the Radeon RX 7700 XT is GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB from Nvidia, which is also a powerful 1440p mid-range gaming graphics card. Here I will be comparing RX 7700 XT with RTX 4060 Ti 16GB so that you can know the major differences between these cards and can make an informed decision about which one suits you better for your specific requirements.
RX 7700 XT vs RTX 4060 Ti 16GB Comparison
Below is the comparison between RX 7700 XT and RTX 4060 Ti 16GB graphics cards based on their specifications, performance, pricing, power consumption, and features.
GPU Architecture
RX 7700 XT is powered by RDNA 3 GPU architecture and uses chiplet design. In this design, the core GPU components are placed on the Graphics Compute Die (GCD) in the middle of the chip, and the Memory Cache and controllers reside on Memory Cache Dies that surround the GCD. The GCD is built on a smaller 5nm fabrication process while MCDs are built on a 6nm manufacturing process. The card uses Navi 32 GPU Chip in a cut-down form and comes with 3456 Stream Processors, 54 Ray Accelerators, and 108 AI Accelerators.
On the other hand, RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is built on Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace architecture on a smaller 5nm fabrication process. The card uses an AD106 GPU Chip and comes with 4352 CUDA Cores, 34 Ray Tracing (RT) Cores, and 136 Tensor Cores for handling AI workloads.

Video Memory [VRAM]
RX 7700 XT comes with 12GB GDDR6 video memory having a 192-bit interface. The memory runs at a speed of 18 Gbps and delivers a memory bandwidth of 432 GB/s. RX 7700 XT also comes equipped with 48 MB Infinity Cache which is an ultra-fast cache memory and it increases the peak memory bandwidth to up to 1995 GB/s. On the other hand, RTX 4060 Ti 16GB comes with 16GB GDDR6 video memory with a 128-bit interface. The memory has a speed of 18 Gbps and generates a bandwidth of 288 GB/s which is quite lower compared to that of RX 7700 XT.

Features
Coming to features, both the cards are equipped with the latest features. They support DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenGL 4.6, Vulkan, PCI-Express 4.0, Real-Time Ray Tracing, HDMI 2.1, Resizable BAR, variable refresh rate technologies G-Sync/FreeSync, AV1 Hardware Encode/Decode. When it comes to Image upscaling tech increases frame rates in games, RX 7700 XT supports FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) while RTX 4070 has DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). RX 7700 XT supports DisplayPort 2.1 (8K 165Hz) while RTX 4060 Ti 16GB doesn’t. Also, RTX 4060 Ti 16GB only supports x8 PCI-Express lanes which translates to reduced PCI-Express bandwidth, especially with systems having motherboards that support PCIe 3.0 or lower PCIe-Express standard/interface.

Final Thoughts
If you don’t care about power consumption then RX 7700 XT is way better than the overpriced RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. RX 7700 XT does come with 4GB less VRAM but for 1440p resolution, 12GB is enough, even for modern-day AAA games. Moreover, the significantly higher memory bandwidth of RX 7700 XT comes in very handy in memory-intensive games. Also, RX 7700 XT is cheaper and supports full x16 PCI-E lanes. All these factors make RX 7700 XT a clear winner in this comparison. If you have any queries or want to share your opinion then do let me know in the comment section below.
