If you are building a mini-ITX / SFF gaming PC, work PC, or HTPC then you may require an SFX PSU or power supply. An SFX PSU is a small form factor power supply that is smaller than a regular ATX PSU. A regular SFX Power Supply is 100mm long (in-depth), 125mm wide, 63mm tall {100mm (L) Ć 125 mm (W) Ć 63mm (H)}, while a standard ATX/PS2 power supply is 140mm long, 150mm wide and 86mm tall, but some ATX power supplies can be up to 200mm long, especially the higher-end ones with more Wattage. SFX PSU, due to its much smaller dimensions, comes with a smaller 80mm or 92mm fan.
An SFX PSU is generally used in small form factor PCs having mini-ITX or SFX low profile cases. This is because mini-ITX and SFF / SFX cases have space constraints and some of them only require SFX or SFX-L power supplies. However, an SFX PSU can also be used in larger or regular ATX cases using SFX to ATX bracket. There is not enough range of SFX PSUs available in the market because of their limited usage scenarios, but here I am going to provide you the list of best SFF power supplies or SFX PSUs with their specifications. These small form factor power supplies can be used for your SFF Gaming PC, SFF Workstation, or HTPC.

Looks good but there is a little room for improvement.
For graphics card I would suggest ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6 because it is a small form factor card and will save you space. RAM you can get 3000MHz as 4000 MHz will be expensive with almost no performance improvement. For SSD, go with Samsung 860 EVO (M.2 preferably as it will save space).
I appreciate your answer. Thank you very much.
Im considering a Ryzen 7 2700, Nvidia quadro P100. MSI Proformace Gaming MOBO, Skill 32 Gb 3200, M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB, M.2 SATA SSD 1 TB, in a Win Chopin SECC mITX case. This case comes with a 150 W Brick.
1. Do I need more wattage for this build?
2. Which SFX/L do you recommend for a 2-4 L mITX case?
How are you going to fit a graphics card in it as the case does not come with expansion slots. Also, it uses proprietary PSU and SFX and TFX PSU are not supported.
Mr. Verma,
Most excellent question…appreciate bring that to my attention…I just learned something new. If you might suggest what would be the smallest mini-ITX case I should consider for this build…and if you have one or two case manufactures, that you personal use, and can recommend. I would be most thankful.
namaskaram,
I suggest Cooler Master MasterCase H100 Mini-ITX case. It is a cube case that can fit all of your components including a graphics card and regular ATX Power supply. It might not be the smallest but is pretty compact.
Mr. Verma,
Deeply appreciate your time and knowledge, and the direction. I will investigate your suggestion. namaskaram
You are most welcome.
Hi, Verma. I wanna build my next rig in a small/slim case. Two options: R7 3700x + RX5700XT or @best I9@5.0GHz + RTX2080ti. Could you lists three/four of your favorite SFX PSUs for these confs? I mean understand price/performance ratio for gaming at high/ultra level. Thanks in advance and bye from Italy. š
You need a 650W for these configurations to be on the safer side and I would suggest EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GM SFX PSU in SFX form factor and Seasonic Focus SGX-650 in SFX-L.
Oook!! Thx
Well Verma, I’m going a little overkilling. I’ve bought a SF750: a jewel. š
Great to know that.
Hey Mr. Verma. Thanks for the great articles. This one shows SFF, but do you know of any PSU upgrade for the older HP Compaq 6005 SFF that have the 240 watt psu that folds out of the case. Iām worried about bottlenecking due to my Phenom II X4 B95 and wanting a 1030/1050 Ti or Radeon RX 550/560. Help! Lol
These are proprietary PSUs and I don’t think you can upgrade one. However, you can still run GT 1030 or GTX 1050 Ti on a 240W PSU easily.
Thank you Sir. Iām having fun fixing up the old SFF.
Hi, Verma.
I have a Nouvolo case with ryzen 5 3600 and gtx 2070. Would you recommend which power is good for me?
You need a 600W SFX PSU for it. I would recommend EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GM SFX PSU. You can read about it at https://graphicscardhub.com/sfx-psu-power-supply/
Hi
For case sff acer x463
Which psu power ?
Please help me
It cannot be upgraded as it uses a proprietary power supply. However, you may be able to fit a Flex ATX PSU (https://graphicscardhub.com/flex-atx-psu/) in there, but I am not sure.
Hey Verma,
I’m having a hard time finding a SFX psu in my current location. Since I travel a lot I’ve chosen this case: Lian li TU150 with a ryzen 5 2600 and gtx 1660 Ti. What power supply would you recommend?
Thanks in advance.
I suggest Corsair SF600 and it can be found easily too.
What is your opinion on the Enermax – Revolution SFX 550W 80+ gold and the SilverStone – SX600-G 80+ gold? Which are cheaper than the corsair.
The only SF600 I’ve found is the Corsair – SF600 80+ platinum and a SF450 80+ platinum.
Both are pretty good too but I would prefer Enermax over SilverStone.
HI Akshat I really like your reviews and find them extremely informative. I’m considering an SFF or mITX build using an SFX or SFX-L PSU – all the reviews referencing high end graphics card support – are you including newer RTX 2080s and up? I have a 2080 which requires 650w minimum PSU and the highest output models are barely over that limit. Any updates regarding RTX series cards?
I think EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GM should be able to handle it if you don’t overclock the card.
Hey bud ! I just read your tfx and now this sfx article and Iām am not sure which I need . I know I will have to use adapter cables but I have a Lenovo 510a-15arr is a small form desk top with a small 180w . But it came with decent stuff . SSD drive , and Ryzen 3 3200g we want to add a card but to low of PSU . Any thoughts ? Thank you in advance for any ideas you have sir .
I think it uses a TFX power supply and not the SFX one. Here are some good TFX power supplies https://graphicscardhub.com/tfx-power-supply-psu/
Hi akshat! your replies are very helpful to all of us … I need your assistance as quick as possible, im building a Mini itx gaming computer with ryzen 5 3600xt , radeon 5600x , msi b550i itx gaming motherboard with some decent ssd drives like Crucial ballistix and WD black nvme.. so my retailer who is building unfortunately ran into a problem where their recommended powersupply didnt work for them which was a corsair cv 650w support (if im not mistaken). Could you PLEASE help me with what supported SFX PSU you can recommend for a Lian Li case TU 150?
I suggest EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GM SFX PSU.
any budget sfx psu ? EVGA is slightly pricey compared to others..
Try Corsair SF600
Im thinking of pairing a RTX 3060 ti or a RTX 3060 in the future with one of these PSUs along a Ryzen 5 3600. Will you think a 650W PSU will suffice? The case of choice could be a Cooler Master NR200, thats why the smaller PSU form factor.
Yes a good SFX/SFX-L 650W PSU should be enough for upcoming RTX 3060/Ti card.
Hello, I was wondering how to get an SFX PSU compatible with an SFF HP 590-p0054 PSU. I don’t see any adapters capable of going from SFX to SFF though.
I think it uses proprietary PSU, so it is not possible.
Hi,
I have Dell Optiplex 7050 SFF(I7 7700) with original 180W PSU. Planning to uppgade it with bigger PSU and at least 4gb graphics. Dell PSU is quite small(22,5×8,5×6,5cm), bigger ones 360W (8HKG7) and 300W (H300EGS-00) are hard to find. With those I shoud be able to use GTX 1650 4gb, low profile. What do you think about my other options to upprade SFF-case? Do you know a better selection by useing these SFX PSU?
Try finding it on eBay. Also, do you want to change your PC Case?
