The sandwich design leaves no space between the drive and the thermal tape, resulting in better heat transfer from the SSD to the thermal tape and metal casing. In slide-in design, the thermal pad gets rubbed when sliding the frame and leaves space between the drive and the enclosure, resulting in poor contact between the thermal tape, SSD, and enclosure, which can cause poor heat dissipation and overheating of the SSD. The overheating of SSD leads to thermal throttling, causing reduced performance and may result in reduced lifespan and failure of the SSD.
